Shahrukh to open IFFI

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan would inaugurate the International
Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2007, which begins on November
23 in Goa.
"Yes, Shahrukh Khan has accepted the invitation to inaugurate
the ten day long festival," the Superstar's spokesperson
Karuna told PTI today.
The event, which will witness best of cinema from India and
abroad, would kick-start with the renowned Romanian film director
Cristian Mungiu's 'Four Months, Three Weeks and Two days'.
The film has already won the prestigious Golden Palm award
at Cannes early this year.
"Shahrukh is pleased to do the honour on behalf of the
film industry," said Karuna on behalf of the actor who
is presently out of the country.
Meanwhile Neelam Kapur, Director of the film festival, says,
celebrated Spanish film director Carlos Saura's critically-acclaimed
film 'Fados' will be the closing film at the festival.
She says the festival will pay a rich tribute to some legendary
film personalities including Swedish master Ingmar Bergman
who died this year. He made classics like 'Smiles of a Summer
Night', 'The Seventh Seal', 'Wild Strawberries' and 'The Magician'.
To honour renowned Bengali filmmaker Tapan Sinha, the festival
will showcase a special collection of his films," Kapur
says.
