Govt stable till I am the minister: Churchill

Sandesh Prabhudesai
14 August 2007

The Digambar Kamat government will be stable till I am the minister, said newly sworn in minister Churchill Alemao yesterday, after he was administered oath of secrecy.

He is however not sure how long the government would remain stable.

Chief minister Kamat confirmed that Alemao would be given the PWD portfolio, earlier held by Sudin Dhavalikar.

Alemao claimed that he had decided to withdraw support to the Manohar Parrikar-led Goa Democratic Alliance to provide stability to the Kamat government and the state.

Regarding the seven demands on which he had fought the elections against the Congress, Alemao said he would discuss it with the chief minister.

He had quit the Congress prior to elections since the party was not prepared to meet these demands.

UGDP MLA Babush Monseratte, in the meanwhile, denied the allegation made by Parrikar that he had withdrawn support under pressure.

"I am not under any pressure", he claimed.
