may come again

The language controversy may erupt once again in the state
as bills relating to Roman script of Konkani and Marathi are
expected to be tabled in the House.
The monsoon Assembly session began from today.
Save Goa Front Churchill Alemao has already announced that
he would table the bill, demanding inclusion of Roman script
for Konkani in the official language act.
The act has defined Devanagri as the specific script for
Konkani in the act, which was passed on 4th February 1987,
almost two decades ago.
On the other hand, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party president
Pandurang Raut has also stated that his party would table
a bill, seeking an amendment to also make Marathi the official
language.
United Goans Democratic Party secretary general Anacleto
Viegas has however opposed the bills, while stating categorically
that Devanagri should be the sole script of Konkani in order
to unite the whole Konkani community.
However, this is my personal opinion. The party is yet to
decide upon the issue, he added.
Babush Monseratte is the sole UGDP MLA in the 40-member House.
The SGF and the MGP have two MLAs each.
The 16-member Congress, 14-member BJP and three-member NCP
are yet to react on the issue.
