Save Goa Front today said it
would support Congress candidate Fransisco Sardinha in the South Goa Lok Sabha
bye-poll, now re-scheduled for October 31, due to Id.
"I am
a part of the Congress-led coalition government in the state, so I will have to
be with its candidate," SGF president Churchill Alemao, who recently had
a bitter experience with the national party, said.
Alemao, who was lobbying
for a Congress ticket to his lawyer daughter Valenka, failed to get it as the
party refused to give it.
"I may support Congress candidate but will
not share platform with them... I can't ditch my daughter," Alemao, apparently
still disturbed over the events, stated.
Congress had initiated talks to
merge SGF into it before giving ticket to Valenka, which were later suspended
after announcing Fransisco Sardinha as its candidate.
South Goa Lok Sabha
bypoll are to be held on October 31 wherein Congress and BJP will be battling
hard to win.
The polls were necessitated after former Congress MP Churchill
Alemao resigned from the post and the party to join state politics.
