Sharad Pawar-led NCP on Wednesday night said it was trying
to avert the political crisis in Goa in the wake of the three-member
party legislative group in the state deciding to withdraw
support to the Congress-led coalition on Thursday, reports
PTI from Delhi.
Party General Secretary Prafull Patel told PTI that "we
are trying to speak to our MLAs to avert the crisis".
Asked whether the party was confident that the problem will
be sorted out, Patel said "we hope the crisis will blow
over".
Meanwhile, Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat also told the
media here that Pawar has assured him to continue his support
to the government.
But the local NCP leaders appear to be not in the mood to
listen to their central leaders. In fact, one of the local
NCP leaders said they would even go to the extent of merging
the whole NCP legislature party into a new local outfit, to
form an alternate government.
According to legal experts, the decision on whether only
the legislator party can merge into another outfit or it also
requires consent of the party organisation lies with the speaker.
"If the speaker supports the move, then the group of
three can form the government", said Adv Cleofato Almeida
Coutinho, a constitutional expert.
