Cong not to stake claim immediately

Sandesh Prabhudesai
1 June 2002

While the BJP has staked claim to form the government, the Congress has changed its plan to immediately stake claim.

On the contrary, the Congress has decided to request Governor Mohammed Fazal not to take any hasty decision but to meet all the party legislators and then decide.

Luizinho Faleiro, the former opposition leader, had earlier told a private television network that they are rushing to Raj Bhavan to stake claim.

However, when this correspondent contacted him, Faleiro said they will not stake claim unless discussions with all the parties are fruitful.

"Everybody wants a stable government and I hope the governor also takes a decision to provide stability to the state", stated Faleiro.

According to him, they are still discussing with the UGDP and the MGP, which have three and two legislators respectively.

Philip Neri Rodrigues, an independent, admits that he is inclined towards the BJP but prefers to sit with his fingers crossed rather than rushing to any particular decision.
