US should not play
terrorism : Eduardo

21 September 2001
Former external affairs minister Eduardo
Faleiro has said the US should not play in the hands of terrorists
by killing innocent people in the name of war.
A minister of state in the erstwhile Congress
government, Faleiro said India should see that the superpower
does not follow a similar path of killing innocent people
in an attempt to crush terrorism.
"If you kill innocents, terrorists win",
he commented, suggesting that war should be fought tactically,
where only the guilty will be punished and not the innocent
masses.
Addressing a press conference in the city
here, the Congress MP however said that we should act as one
people against the common menace of terrorism in all its shapes,
but cautioned not to reproduce the same kind of violence and
inhumanity.
While supporting prime minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee's call for global war against terrorism, Faleiro
has also urged him to take action against Bajrang Dal, the
Sangh Parivar associates of the ruling BJP, for involving
themselves in similar kind of terrorist activities within
India.
"The government should immediately put an
end to these blatantly illegal and provocative training camps
of the Bajrang Dal and arrest the masterminds behind them",
he demanded.
Drawing attention to the private army being
raised by the Sangh Parivar by conducting training camps in
several parts of India, Faleiro said this is no different
from fundamentalist organisations in Pakistan.
"Terrorism is fundamentalism and it needs
to be crushed at all levels", he opined while expressing regrets
that no action was initiated by the central government till
date in spite of raising this issue in the last Parliament
session.
