Vishwajeet, Micky & 6 Congmen to get berths

Sandesh Prabhudesai
22 June 2007

Independent MLA Vishwajeet Rane and NCP MLA Micky Pacheco would be inducted in the Digambar Kamat-led cabinet, besides only six more senior Congress legislators.

"Expansion may take place by Sunday if the list comes by tomorrow", said Kamat, after arriving here from Delhi today afternoon.

Though he refused to disclose any name, the chief minister categorically said the Congress-led ruling alliance will have two NCP, one MGP and one independent MLA as the ministers, besides total eight Congressmen.

Besides Kamat, Ravi Naik (Congress), Sudin Dhavalikar (MGP) and Jose Philip D'Souza (NCP) have already been inducted in the cabinet.

"High command always gives priority to the senior persons rather than the newcomers", said Kamat, when asked whether any newly elected Congressman will have a place in the cabinet.

At least 10 senior Congressmen are awaiting the berths while only six more seats are available in the cabinet.

These include Dayanand Narvekar, Victoria Fernandes, Babu Azgaonkar, Joaquim Alemao, Pandurang Madkaikar, Alexio Sequeira, Francis Silveira, Filip Neri Rodirigues, Mauvin Godinho and Agnel Fernandes.

"Enough care has been taken to avoid any differences over the cabinet expansion", said Kamat, while refusing to divulge the strategy.

Going by Congress tradition, it is clear that rest of the people would be given posts of deputy speaker, parliamentary secretary and major lucrative corporations.
