Chief minister Francisco Sardinha has to now face the floor test on Tuesday, to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
Governor Mohammed Fazal issued a notification in this regard today late evening, convening a special session on 24 October, with one point on the agenda – the motion of vote of confidence to be moved by the chief minister.
The situation of instability arose once again as the Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew its support to the Sardinha-led coalition government today morning, while staking claim to form alternate government.
With eight members of the two splinter groups joining the 10-member BJP on Saturday, its leader Manohar Parrikar has claimed support of 21 members in the 40-member House, including four other members.
Though all 21 met the governor today afternoon, the session is being convened in view of Sardinha refusing to step down but offering to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
Before issuing the notification, the governor also met Sardinha, speaker Pratapsing Rane as well as Nationalist Congress Party leader Dr Wilfred de Souza.
