Wi-Max for Panaji, Margao by next year

The ministry of communications and information technology plans to provide 8,000 broadband connections in Goa by next year.

Panaji and Margao cities will also be provided with Wi-Max Internet service.

Union minister of state for Communication & IT Shakeel Ahmed informed to the Rajya Sabha in this regard today, while replying to a question raised by RS MP Shantaram Naik.

He also provided a detailed break-up of broadband connections provided till 16th August, as follows: 768 in Panaji Exchange followed by 726 connections in Miramar, 697 in Margao 414 in Ponda. Aldona has been provided with 59 connections, Anjuna 67, Aquem 390,Bambolim 114,Benaulim 87,Bicholim 47,Bogmalo 50,Calangute 367,Canacona 46,Candolim 62,Chicalim 217,Colva 126, Dona Paula 370,Fatorda 248,Mangor 63, Mapusa 385, Merces 153, Patto 86,Ponda 414, Porvorim 364, Ribander 118, Sada 59, Saligao 114,Sancoale 53,Vasco 305, and Verna Exchange 116.

As regards Wi-Fi connections, Dr. Ahmad informed Mr. Naik that three Wi-Fi hotspots have been created at Peramar Resort, Venguinim Hotel and International Centre.
