accident toll rises to 51

The toll of the tragic accident of Karwar-Mumbai Holiday
Special has reached 51, which derailed on 22 June.
Though rescue operations are still on, chances of finding
more bodies trapped under the debris appear remote. The authorities
claim that most of the bodies have been recovered.
The dead include 31 males, 10 females, and 9 children. Over
60 injured have been shifted to various hospitals in Maharashtra
and Goa.
Out of these 51, bodies of 19 passengers have been identified
as Shashikant Naik, Sarita Sunil Gavas, Ratnakar Rane, C.R.
Dalvi, Sunil D. Chari, Sandra Johnson DCosta Dilip S
Dalvi, Shubhangi D Dalvi, Shaun G. DCosta, Diego Alex
Rosario, Laxman J. Lajwande, Deo Laxman Umdar, Subbu Ghosh,
Neelkanth V. Mahale, Ron D. Fernandes, Suman N Mahale, Venugopal
Pottaparanadi, Mangala Choudhuary, and V.D Joseph.
The bodies of unidentified passengers are being shifted to
Goa Medical College, Panjim (Tel: 0832-2458725).
Following the accident, the trains on Konkan Railway route
have been cancelled or diverted via Pune, Kalyan, Wadi, Guntakkal
route on 24th June.
The trains that have been cancelled for 24th June are 0103/0104
Mandovi Exp, Diva-Sawantwadi-Madgaon passenger train in both
directions, 2051/2052 Jan Shatbadi Exp, 6345 Netravati Exp,
2619 Matsyagandha Exp, and 166 Ernakulam-Dadar Holiday special
train of 23rd June which was to reach KR route today.
KR2 Mangalore-Madgaon passenger train will run on schedule.
KR4 Ratnagiri-Dadar passenger train of today has been rescheduled
at 0900 hrs.
2618 Mangala Exp has been diverted. 6346 Netravati Exp of
23rd June has been rescheduled at 2315 hrs and has been diverted.
2617 Mangala Exp, 6334 Trivandrum-Hapa Exp, and 1098 Ernakulam-Pune
Poorna Exp have all been diverted via alternate route.
Konkan Railway has so far paid an ex-gratia amount of total
Rs.2,60,000/- to those injured and to the kith and kins of
those who died in the unfortunate accident.
