Naval air craft crashes
in Canacona

A naval fighter air craft crashed in South Goa today afternoon,
during a routine sortie.
The pilot, Lt. Vikram Menon, however has jumped out safely.
According to official naval PRO, the air craft belonging
to INS Hansa crashed at around 12 noon today, on a hillock
in Canacona taluka.
The Canacona police immediately intimated the naval authorities
in Vasco. The naval officials as well as police rushed to
the spot immediately.
According to Canacona police, some mechanical fault occurred
in the craft and the pilot lost communication with the centre.
As he saw water of Chapoli dam, he immediately jumped out
with the help of a parachute. Two village boys fishing near
the dam rescued him and brought Lt Menon safely to the police
station.
It was raining heavily while strong wind was blowing when
the mechanical fault occurred, according to Canacona police.
