Sex scandal rocks Goa

Sandesh Prabhudesai
26 May 2001

Following three financial scandals of various nature, Goa is now rocked with a sex scandal, involving sons of top politicians in the state.

"It is worst than the Jalgaon sex scandal", states chief minister Manohar Parrikar. Following a verbal complaint, he has told the police to investigate into it.

Though officially the police are silent over it, preliminary inquiries conducted by them have brought startling facts to the fore. They suspect involvement of sons of influential Congressmen, exploiting young college girls, in collusion with a leading loan shark of the capital city.

The racket of sexual abuse as well as gambling was run from a building at Miramar in Panaji, supposedly owned by the city's leading loan shark. In order to attract young girls from a nearby college, a cyber cafe functioning there was offering special concessional rates for the students.

According to police sources, young beautiful girls visiting the cyber cafe were offered soft drinks, mixing sleep-inducing drug into it. The drowsy victims were then dragged to the flats above, undressed and photographed in compromising positions.

Threatening them of sending the obscene photos to their parents, the girls were then compelled to satisfy sexual urge of sons of top politicians, senior bureaucrats and even police officers.

A close accomplice of one of the former chief minister as well as sons of former ministers and other VIPs holding equally influential positions are supposedly involved in the sex scandal, which is being run over a year now, state the sources.

Though the police are still silent on the investigations being conducted into it, sources disclose that a criminal case in the matter would be filed shortly. Having heard of the shameful act taking place in his own constituency, Parrikar has also taken the matter very seriously.

"No matter who is the culprit, they will not be spared", states Parrikar firmly, while confirming involvement of influential top brass of the society.
