Disgusted GBA threatens to strike back

Sandesh Prabhudesai
27 July 2007

The Goa Bachao Abhiyan has expressed disgust over the ongoing political crisis and threatened to strike all over again if this attempt to grab power leads to restoration of Regional Plan 2011.

The GBA views with serious concern the media reports indicating that the Regional Plan 2011 (RP 2011) is the reason for the current political crisis, stated Dr Oscar Rebello, the GBA convenor, in a press note released in this regard.

It further states:

Goans have expressed their resolve through the GBA to defeat any attempt by the vested interests to sell Goa to the highest bidder. GBA categorically states that any attempt to restore the scrapped RP 2011 is against the wishes of the people of Goa

GBA expresses disgust and contempt at the latest games of brinkmanship indulged in by various political parties, all with the avowed motive of gaining power and not in Goa's long- term interest.

This game of defections, resignations and toppling Governments has been the bane and curse of Goan polity for the last two decades or so and every single party has contributed to the mockery that the parliamentary system of democracy in Goa has degenerated to.

Ethics, principles and morality in public life is empty rhetoric and these platitudes are mouthed only at the time of elections. Post elections only interests of elected individuals remain paramount.

The GBA is watching closely the events that are to follow specially with regard to the Regional Plan 2011. If the interest Goa is again put to the sword, the GBA will not hesitate to strike all over again with more strength and vigour.
