The political drama took new
twist today with Congress MLA Agnel Fernandes filing a disqualification petition
against both the MGP legislators - Sudin and Dipak Dhavalikar.
According
to Congress general secretary Vishnu Wagh, the petition has been filed on the
basis of the statement made by MGP general secretary Pradip Naik, who had told
the media on Saturday that no decision was taken by the party to withdraw support
to the Digambar Kamat government.
It appears that Congress is planning to
get Dhavalikar brothers disqualified for going against the decision of the party
organisation, the same grounds on which Matanhy Saldhana was disqualified in the
last Assembly.
The MGP however yesterday succeeded in turning tables against
the Congress by getting their general secretary Mr Naik to address a joint press
conference, along with party president Pandurang Raut, MLAs Dhavalikar brothers
and other central committee members.
According to the fresh statement made
by Mr Naik, the joint meeting of the central committee and the legislator wing
had unanimously decided on 21st July to give powers to Raut and Dhavalikar brothers
to decide upon withdrawing support, if need arises.
The MGP withdraw its
support to the government on 26th July.
Incidentally, Mr Naik has handed
over only the central committee minutes book to the speaker while the minutes
book of the joint meetings of the central committee and legislature wing would
be handed over tomorrow morning.
According to him, the legislature secretary
had sent a letter on 28th July, asking for the minutes books. The letter referred
to the disqualification petitions.
Sudin Dhavalikar however told the media
today that he had not received any intimation in this regard till date.
According
to him, three of them had decided to withdraw support to the government since
chief minister Kamat had become powerless after handing over home and finance
portfolios to others.
Though chief minister Kamat claims of having support
of 20 including Victoria Fernandes, who has actually resigned but her letter not
yet accepted, it is crystal clear that she will not attend the session tomorrow.
While
Kamat thus remains only with 18 votes as Pratapsing Rane will be sitting in the
speaker's chair, the Goa Democratic Alliance will have full strength of 20 on
their side.
If Dhavalikar brothers are disqualified and not allowed to enter
the House, even the GDA will reduce to 18, creating a tie.
Kamat reportedly
thus plans to win the trust vote with a casting vote of Rane, the speaker.
