Chief minister Digambar Kamat has ordered an inquiry into
the illegalities, if any, committed after scrapping of the
controversial regional plan.
Kamat yesterday agreed with almost all the demands put forward
by the Goa Bachao Abhiyan, who met him under the leadership
of its convenor Dr Oscar Rebello.
Kamat has instructed chief town planner Morad Ahmed to submit
a report of illegal works that have taken place, by 15 July.
The main demands that have been agreed upon, according to
Rebello, are as follows:
1. The government will appoint a steering committee to make
suggestions regarding the new regional plan.
2. The new regional plan will be kept open for the public
for objections and suggestions.
3. The town and country planning act will be amended to clear
all the loopholes.
4. Consult experts while preparing the new regional plan.
Dr Rebello later welcomed the steps taken by the chief minister
while hoping that he would stick to the assurances given today.
Chief secretary J P Singh said today's meeting will be followed
by a meeting of concerned officials to implement today's decisions.
