Goa Ispat awarded ISO 9001:2000

Sandesh Prabhudesai
2 July 2003

Goa Ispat Ltd, manufacturers of steel at Madkai, have been awarded the ISO9001:2000 and ISO14001 for their manufacturing process of TOR steel, thermo mechanically treated (T.M.T) bars and wire rods with German technology.

Goa Ispat Ltd was founded in 1997 by S.K. Goel. His 25 years of experience in the steel industry helped propel GIL into the leading steel rolling mill in the entire Konkan and Southern regions, states the press note.

GIL is the largest, fully automatic rolling mill with German technology. GIL manufactures products as per the Bureau of Indian Standards IS:1786/85.

Currently, the GIL controls 66 per cent of Goa's market share and 50 per cent of the entire Konkan and Southern regions with annual turnover of Rs.60 crores. It has a widespread dealers' network in all these areas. Presently, 60 per cent of the plant's 4000 tonne per month capacity is being used for GIL TMT.

GIL's TMT bars with high strength and corrosion resistance properties, can be used in the construction of bridges, flyovers, multi-storeyed buildings, concrete roads, underground construction, dams, industrial structures, marine structures and residential complexes.

GIL's TMT bars have special features of high strength combined with higher elasticity, excellent weld-ability, easy work-ability as well as other special safety features of being earthquake resistant, corrosion resistant and heat resistant as compared to conventional bars.
"The high resistance levels and the anti-corrosive qualities of these bars work together to ensure a saving of 14-16 percent of steel costs to a project, without sacrificing the strength of the structure" says Rajendar Singhal, director of the company.

Other directors of the company are S.K. Goel, Satnarain Mittal and H.V. Mittal.
