Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party
(MGP) today announced their withdrawl from the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance,
a front which was conceived to oust Digamber Kamat-led Congress government in
Goa.
"We have decided to withdraw from GDA and instead concentrate
on building our own party at the grassroot level," MGP president Pandurang
Raut told mediapersons this evening.
MGP, was the lone political party besides
parent BJP, left in the GDA after it was deserted by partners like United Goans
Democratic Party (UGDP) and Save Goa Front (SGF).
"The party leaders
felt there was no use of continuing with the GDA when UGDP and SGF, who led the
formation of the front, deserted it," reasoned Raut.
The MGP president,
who is having two legislators in the 40-member Goa assembly, however, refused
to divulge whether the party will join hands with the Congress-led government.
The
GDA was formed on July 26 when BJP along with MGP, SGF, UGDP and an independent
legislator, claimed the majority in the house.
Digamber Kamat led government,
who was plunged into minority, managed to survive the floor test when Speaker
Pratapsingh Rane restrained three legislators -- including two from MGP -- to
vote on the floor of the House.
The Congress had filed disqualification
petition against both the MGP legislators which is pending with the Speaker.
