The Nationalist Congress Party has decided to co-operate
with chief minister Digambar Kamat, while keeping its options
open with the high command to decide about the urban development
portfolio.
Revenue minister Jose Philip D'Souza had earlier tried to
trap Kamat by threatening to withdraw from the Congress-led
alliance if urban development portfolio was not granted to
him.
Joaquim Alemao, Congress MLA from Cuncolim, is the urban
development minister.
In order to resolve the issue, the chief minister has offered
education portfolio to D'Souza and river navigation and ports
to tourism minister Micky Pacheco.
D'Souza however is still not keen on accepting the education
portfolio.
"We will co-operate with the chief minister. But let
our high command decide about the portfolio issue", D'Souza
told the media.
Meanwhile, two Congress legislators - Agnel Fernandes (Calangute)
and Babu Kavalekar (Quepem) have been made the chairpersons
of Economic Development Corporation and Industrial Development
Corporation respectively.
