Taiwan lifts Golden
Peacock

A film from Taiwan, based on the white terror in 1950s, `The
Wall' bagged the coveted Golden Peacock award at the 38th
International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that concluded
here on Monday.
Directed by Lin Chih Ju, the film outwitted 13 other films
from Asia, Africa and Latin America competing in the competition
category.
A jury headed by Hungary's filmmaker Marta Meszaros and comprising
Turkish actress Meltem Cumbul, Pablo Cesar, Robert Sarkies
and Malayalam director Shaji N Karun, selected the film.
Renowned Bengali filmmaker Buddhabeb Dasgupta, who was the
chief guest, gave away the Golden Peacock and a citation.
The Golden Peacock carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and
citation. As none was present to take the Golden Peacock,
the organisers decided to send it through diplomatic channels
to Taiwan.
In the promising director category, Thailand's debutant director
Pongpat Wachirabunjong bagged the silver peacock for his movie
`My Myself.' The award carries cash of Rs five lakh and citation.
The special jury award was given to two films-- Bangaladeshi
film "On The Wings of Dreams" got the award for
its story and Mexican film "More Than Anything In The
World" for acting.
Both were given Rs 2.5 lakh and a citaiton.
