The Congress-NCP alliance has decided to form the government
along with the two-member Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and
two independents - Anil Salgaoncar and Vishwajeet Rane.
The MGP and the independents have already submitted support
letters to the Congress, besides the NCP.
Meanwhile, Ravi Naik is tipped to be the chief minister of
the new Congress-led alliance government. He may be sworn
in tomorrow, if agreed upon by the party high command.
Margaret Alva, the Goa in-charge of the Congress, today evening
left for Delhi to finalise the chief ministerial candidate.
She was supposed to meet party president Sonia Gandhi tonight.
Ravi's name has reportedly been supported by the majority
of legislators. Most Congressmen have however vehemently opposed
Pratapsing Rane as their leader, it is learnt.
However, the possibility of Digambar Kamat emerging as a
compromise candidate cannot be ruled out, disclosed a senior
Congressman.
While the NCP has publicly demanded the post of the deputy
chief minister for their legislature leader Micky Pacheco,
sources said the MGP is also trying hard for the post.
