D-Link plans VOIP products

Sandesh Prabhudesai
7 December 2000

D-Link India, the sole manufacturers of LAN and WAN products in the country, will now also manufacture Voice Over Internet Protocol products as well as the whole range of fibre optical products in India.

Adding to its existing plant here at Verna Industrial Estate worth Rs 15 crore, the new expansion plant worth Rs 25 crore is almost ready. "The plan is to expand vertically as well as horizontally", says Nitin Kunkolienkar, senior personnel manager.

With a turnover of around Rs 225 crore, D-Link is already into manufacturing of LAN products like hubs etc., internet products like modems and servers, ISDN range of products like cards, routers etc as well as structure cabling products.

The fully hi-tech Taiwanese firm has now also gone into USB products as well as digital products like cameras, which would be now made available at much reasonable rates than the ones sold by multinationals in the Indian market.

While expanding manufacturing base of all these products, the new plant would also manufacture hardware as well as software of VOIP, expecting Indian government to legalise it soon. "Meantime, we will export it", says Kunkolienkar.

It is also learnt that D-Link is planning to tie up with Clerent from the USA to concentrate in the VOIP market, especially in Asia where the company has concentrated its market base.

D-Link, with its environment-friendly products like modems, hubs and servers, has managed to make it a household name throughout the country by selling quality products at reasonable rates.

D-Link products are presently marketed in more than 22 states and three union territories countrywide, besides all the SAARC countries. The Goa plant also has an export base in Europe and the Middle East.
