The Congress Legislature Party is expected to elect its
leader at 3 pm today.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has sent down two emissaries
- union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and MP R K Dhawan
- along with Goa desk in-charge Margaret Alva.
They are reportedly carrying the name of the new chief minister,
which would be disclosed at the meting.
Alva, along with Mabel Rebello and Siddharth Patel, had submitted
a report to Mrs Gandhi last night, after consulting all the
Congress legislators individually.
Ravi Naik, the state president and Ponda MLA, is the front
runner in the race.
Following him are present chief minister Pratapsing Rane,
Dayanand Narvekar as well as Digambar Kamat.
The suspense in this regard would be over only after the
emissaries disclose the name at the CLP meeting.
If agreed upon, it could be followed by the swearing in ceremony
today evening.
