President to visit on 12 Jan

After taking over as India's President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam would be visiting Goa for the first time on January 12 and 13.

As expected, he would be spending considerable time interacting with children in this coastal state.

Two different functions related to the interaction with school children are on cards during President's visit. On January 13, he would be visit Sanjay School complex at Porvorim, situated 5 kms away from capital city of Panaji.

Sanjay School imparts education to the less ableded students. He would be spending one hour with them. From there, President along with his entourage would drive to Kala Academy where 800 students from Matruchhaya (home for orphane children), Apna Ghar (a remand home for juvenile deliquents), Bal Bhavan and few other schools would gather.

President will also lay foundation stone for secod phase of Bal Bhavan at Campal, Panaji.

Besides interaction with children, President will also attend Indo-US workshop on science and technology to counter terrorism. The workshop is organised by Indian Institute of Advance science at Taj Exotica in South Goa. This will be his first function after he lands in Goa.

On January 13, President will launch a distance education programme which would be taken up in collaboration with IIT-Mumbai and Goa University. This will follow, launching of Goa Education Development Corporation. The corporation is carved to attract high quality technical education in the state.

President Kalam will also visit South Goa where he would have aerial survey of area where two rivers are linked. While project linking rivers is prioritised by NDA government, Goa government has already linked two rivers to fulfill the requirement of drinking water in its Opa water treatment plant.

He would be taken on the spot in Helicopter. On January 13 evening, he will further proceed to Bangalore.
