Goa has opened its sky for kite flyers and makers from USA,
France, Holland, Australia and South Africa for the Goa Kite
Carnival.
The kite-lovers, flyers and makers from across the nation
will also participate in the festival schedule to begin on
January 16 at Miramar beach situated 2 kms away from capital
city of Panaji.
The Nomad Heritage Trust is holding this event in collaboration
with Goa Tourism department and corporation of city of Panaji.
For last seven years, places like Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra and
Lucknow are also hosting this unique event.
The state tourism department considers this festival as an
opportunity to woo more tourists in this coastal state. ``The
union tourism ministry has also jumped in to sponsor the kite
festival and is awaiting a formal proposal from Goa tourism
department,'' stated Goa's director of tourism, Mr N Suryanarayan.
According to him, the event is being envisaged as a tourist
attraction and would be made an annual feature on Goa's tourist
calander.
Mr Ajay Prakash of Nomad Trust feels that besides international
participation from USA, France, Holland, Australia, and South
Africa, India's best kite makers and local kite enthusiasts
would gather for the festival.
``The sky has no boundries and at the carnival, the kites
will be flown promoting the messages of peace,'' he stated
adding,``the kite carnival is an effort to attract new activity-oriented
and more eco-friendly tourists in Goa.''
