Qualis, the multi-purpose vehicle of Toyota
Kirloskar Motor Ltd, is targeting tourism segment of Goa by
working out special package schemes for the taxis operating
for the star hotels.
Sandeep Singh, the general manager (marketing),
said half of its market would be promoted vigorously in the
tourism segment since the vehicle is preferred by families
to travel with comfort.
While Goa has around 10,000 tourist vehicles,
almost 80 per cent of its market is presently captured by
the Maruti Omni vans. Due to oversaturation of tourist vehicles,
the government has now stopped issuing permits for tourist
vehicles.
"We plan to promote it as a replacement for
the existing vehicles by tying up with the financial institutions
and banks", says Amarsinh Patil, the Goa-based executive director.
The Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd opened its
29th showroom, called Sharayu Toyota, in Goa in the presence
of veteran politician Sharad Pawar as well as Goa's top politicians
on 7 May.
According to Singh, Qualis is an ideal vehicle
for transporting tourists due to multi-usage requirements
it has provided including easily foldable seats, diversified
air-conditioning and a very small turning radius, besides
options of 8-seater and 10-seater.
Satoshi Aoki, the director of marketing division,
disclosed here that the company is now planning to enter the
medium car market with a high quality and low price component.
