Parrikar demands criminal inquiry into drug-police nexus

Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar has demanded a criminal inquiry, headed by an IPS officer, into the alleged links of police officials with drug peddlers.

Reacting to the suspension of PI Ashish Shirodkar and four other police personnel after their nexus was exposed with the drug peddler Atala by the media, Parrikar said this is a mere administrative exercise.

According to him, mere suspension can also time consumption exercise. "Consistent follow up of the matter is a must", he feels.

Parrikar also pointed out that the government needs to act tougher if it is serious about busting the nexus between the police and the drugs mafia.

"Solution to this is a criminal inquiry and not administrative action. The government should immediately appoint an IPS officer for such an inquiry and not normal investigation by the crime branch", he said.

Following suspension of the five police personnel, the matter has now been handed over to the crime branch of Goa CID to investigate.

Meanwhile, police have still not succeeded in nabbing Atala, the Israeli drug dealer, whose video footage established the nexus of PI Ashish Shirodkar with him in selling drugs in 2008.

Interestingly, Katala was convicted in drug seizure case and was deported to Israel in 2006. But he managed to come back to Goa and continue his drug peddling business with the blessings of Anti Narcotic Cell of Goa police.

Mr. V. P., Pl. keep your ears tuned to what people say, do 'neer-ksheer-vivek' and you will understand who these politicians could be and of which parties. In the end, a Goan has releatives and friends in most taluka of the state so they would know

Why only "drug-police nexus "? There is all possibility that some of the powerful corrupt politicians too could be acting behind the curtains! A common man feels that the inquiry should also examine if some politicians are also behind the scene moving the pawns!

After Mahanandsaab has been acquitted for the second of the sixteen murders, I am thinking for the first time if I should vote for the BJP next time; I had never voted for the BJP yet.

Law and Order is the first duty of the Government

When the friends and relatives of the big brass visit Goa and enjoy free stay + food and drinks coutresy, who is billed? You are right, the criminals. When such a racket is busted, who is caught in the net? Small fish of course. Manohar is right in suggesting the enquiry through an IPS officer would shed some light. But grounds for enquiry should start from top to bottom and not vice versa.

Right now political will is in ECSTACY with medicinal treatment of a few suspensions. "Magir polovya, tu bhiyov naka. Matso rau".

Gaitonde sounds to be a supporter of Manohar. Congratulations Manohar. What arel you talking about Mr gaitonde ? Where was this "will" sleeping all this time till Atala did somthing to protect himself? You mean this "will "will act to to protect onself only when something pops up like this or is the will there to safegaurd the state's interest ?? No doubt the law is strong enough but what we also know is the Lawmen in the state are scoundrels in uniforms. Any comments to that Mr Gaitonde?

Our laws are strong enough to tackle such problems. Only needs strong political will to solve or eredicate the roots.
