Digambar demands ban on Facebook, Orkut etc

In the backdrop of fake accounts of ministers being created, Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has demanded a ban on social networking sites (SNSes) including Facebook.

The Chief Minister has recently written a letter to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, which functions under I&B Ministry, demanding a ban on the SNSes.

"Social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook, Hi5 etc, are adversely affecting the lives of people with unscrupulous elements using them to post defamatory, vulgar and obscene material to blackmail, defame, cause mayhem among the people and destroy the social fabric of a peaceful society like Goa," he said in the letter.

Innocent people fall victim to emails or "add friend" requests when they see email IDs belong to their friends or their acquaintances, he said adding therefore these sites should be banned.

Two of Goa''s ministers Churchill Alemao and Atanasio Monserratte had filed a police complaint last week after their fake IDs were created on social networking websites.

In addition, one such account has also been created of the chief minister on Orkut.

This character's ban would be justified on the grounds that he proves his integrity as a leader who keeps from corruption and crimes. It is high time to ban all political governments/parties/organizations in favour of direct democracy.

Queen Elizabeth of the UK is now on Facebook along

with other very prominent world leaders, academics etc.

I now look forward to another prominent, self styled, very sleepy, uninterested, world leader called Digamber Kamat, Chief Minster of Goa, Leader of 40, very corrupt Public servants of the Goa Legislature, many with criminal cases pending, to stop Facebook single handed.

He is the Chief Minister who states that a Biscuit is the same as a "Poori".

I wish him success.

However I will now await his favourite quote..."I have been misunderstood" or it was taken out of context.

if he cannot succeed with Facebook...he can try Orkut.

All the most prominient and distinguished Presidents,Prime Ministers etc in the world have a Facebook / Twitter account.Barack Obama (USA),David Cameron (UK),Gordon Brown (UK). and many others to name a few.

Who the hell does Digamber Kamat think he is.He is in charge of a coalition, having many corrupt MLA`s.He is obviously in the Premier League of Corrupt Politicians that fear the truth.

I do not personally think he is fit to run a developing state like Goa.He is not a firm Chief Minister.Infact he is playing a "BALANCING" act to keep himself in power as he does not have a majority. This is one reason he has not condoned the actions of Mickky and Ravi Naik and Babush Monseratte

Goa is slowly becoming the Laughing stock of India and the World. Thanks to its ill-educated Ministers.

Being a B.A graduate is of no use if one does not apply logic and commonsense for the greater good.Perhaps Mr D Kamat is only interested in impresing his Migrant Vote Bank for his salvation.

It seems like our nurds the politicians, themselves are behind all this. This can be a way of gaining sympathy and support for themselves. This could also be a way to hide their nefarious activities behind the curtains. This could be to draw away the attention of people away from the main issues. The Goan Politicians can never be trusted given the present scenario and now they are up to monkey mischieves. The facebook started with one, then there was another and after that third. Slowly all the other politicians will be on facebook (their own gimmick). GOD SAVE GOA AND THE GOANS from the rogues!

Digamber should grow up and accept the new realities of social networking. This is price he and his ilks have to pay for being rich and powerful.

All he should do is hit the button 'report abuse' on the concerned facebook page and initiate process for taking it off the facebook. He can also send an e-mail or call 'Mark Zuckerberg' to complain.

Please also ban all regional and national news channels, newspapers, magazines for influencing our innocent people with unfound scandals and constantly defaming our honest politicians!

I don't think our Goans have enough time to publish such materials on facebook, it is definetly the idea of Goan politicians listed above to get Hafta from one of the rich network sites like Facebook and Orkut.

i need to tell the CM ple put a BAN of the drug trade illegal mining ,prostitution, illegal sale of land , then getting migrants on the voters list , corruption by MLA , You have a list in front of you to Ban , than bringing a ban on this silly things like Fcbk ..

It is like throwing out the baby with bath water. Just because some politicians are at the receiving end there is call for doing away with social networking and taking up this issue with the Union Govt ? Take the mining imbroglio instead. Mr. CM you need to look inwards in introspection. If politicians had any integrity no one would bother to poke fun or to waste their time on faking someone. This is a comical situation like barking at anything seen as a threat. Are there no cyber laws to tackle or deal with the issue? I always believed in the Chinese pithy saying "if you are standing straight do not worry if the shadow is crooked". Instead concentrate on the increasing rate of crime and new controversy erupting every other day because of bad governance. Is the CM sullied if he is seen with people not of his own calibre? Then how can he vouch for the common man. It's bouquets and brickbats when in public office. Accept these with grace. This goes to all of you in public service. Think of the insults dished out to the common man at every level.
