13-nation Lusofonia games in Goa still uncertain

Will Goa host the Lusofonia Games scheduled in October-November 2013?

Though the Games committee yesterday expressed disappointment over the preparations to host the nine-discipline event, Secretary General of ACOLOP (Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees), Mario Rosa de Almeida of Angola said he is optimistic.

The events for the 13-nation Lusofonia games include football, futsal, athletics, volleyball, beach volleyball, taekwondo, basketball, judo and table tennis.

Almeida's optimism stems from the fact that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to have all the infrastructure in place in time for the Games.

However, a true picture would emerge tomorrow after the meeting of the 13-member ACOLOP committee scheduled in a South Goa hotel.

"We're not happy, but we want to give Goa a chance to host the Lusofonia game. The decisions taken at the general assembly tomorrow would be important," he said.

When asked if the Lusofonia game will be postponed or shifted elsewhere Almeida said "No".

"We have been assured that all facilities will be completed, we met the chief minister today and he has shown keen interest in the Games. We came here after one year and we were surprised that nothing has started. We understand the reasons for the delay, we want to have good relationship with government, and the Chief Minister has assured us of all help," Mario said.

Admitting that the committee would be strict henceforth and set up a technical committee to monitor the progress, Mario said, "We're going to have a calendar for the various projects so that we keep abreast of the happenings.

The Chief Minister has assured that the calendar would be chalked out by April 15 and the (ACOLOP) committee would meet in July to assess the situation," he said.

Hi J Dias , Navelim:::

If there was a Sport called "LOOTING", or "MIS-APPROPRIATION" or "COMMISSIONS", you could bet your last Paisa,that the now defunct Congress MLA`s would win all the Gold Medals.The highest honour and collector of these Gold Medals would be Churchill Alemao, Joaquim Alemao,Babush Monseratte,Jennifer Monseratte,Mauvin Godinho, Pandu Madkaikar,Ravi Naik,Digamber Kamat and Valanka Alemao and the father and son duo, the Ranes.Valanka would definetly win the Gold Medal for "Commissions",in the womens section.

Looks like the ex-Sports Minister of the Congress Party,was busy playing his traditional games of looting the General Public and the Exchequer.There surely must be a SCAM to be discoverd here.After the Commonwealth Games fiasco, there must be another looming ,with the Lusofonia Games.Accountability of this must lie with the Ex-Congress Party and its "Headman" Digamber Kamat.The only infrastructure that is ready, seems to be the Air Copnditioned Toilet in Margao. Goa will not need any colourful decorations.There is plenty of colourful & smelly garbage all over Goa to greet Visitors. Mr Parrikar should not ask Mr Digamber Kamat ,why this delay has taken place.Digamber Kamat will have to fly to New Delhi along with Ravi Naik & Churchill Alemao for an answer.Dont bother asking Oscar Fernandes or Jagmeet Brar either.They will spend months deciding,along with Madame Sonia, if Goa has the "WINNABILITY" factor.Churchill Alemao,may have a lame or even a bold excuse.However he will first have first to kiss his daily "BIBLE " and spend a few days in Valiankani and also see if his daughter ,Valanka Alemao will have any chance of competing in the Games on the "FAMILY TICKET".And as for Joaquim Alemao,I would not bother asking him .He has a "yet to be discovered heart ailment".Doctors think it is due to the stress of excessive & illegal RED EARTH Mining.
