Unique inauguration planned for Yuva Mahotsav

Inaugurating in a unique manner and in tune with the natural surroundings of Sattari taluka, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will begin the Seventh Goa Yuva Mahotsav tomorrow morning at Mhadei Nagar at Valpoi at 9.30 am.

After receiving him at the municipal square in the market by Reception Committee chairman and MLA Venkatesh Desai, the Chief Minister will proceed to the main pandal in a procession led by school students and followed by ethnic folk troupes of Sattari taluka.

Valpoi Municipality Chairperson Sheikh Kamruddin will preside over the inaugural function while Fr Agnelo Lawrence of Our Lady of Lourdes High school will be the guest of honour on the occasion.

Swati Naik, who has been the Working President this year, will also address the function, besides Konkani Bhasha Mandal President Damodar Mauzo, Chief Co-ordinator Pramod Mhadeshwar of Vivekanand Kala Sadarikaran Manch and Secretary Prof. Prakash Parienkar.

The main pandal of the Mahotsav has been named after late Harishchandra Katkar, Goa’s famous harmonium player from Sattari while another pandal has been named after Natyabhramar Sadashiv Nene, another Sattarikar, who was part of the then famous Kirloskar Natya Mandali in Maharashtra.

The hall meant for creative art like rangoli and posters is named after Daniel Pinho, a painting teacher of Valpoi, who died at young age recently. Another place meant for street play is named after famous Kirtankar and theatre personality Sitaram Barve.

After holding 16 different competitions in five different places simultaneously, the concluding function will be held on 26 January at 4.30 pm. Art and Culture Minister Ramarao Desai will be the chief guest on the occasion while Remo Fernandes, a Goan artist and pop singer of international repute, will preside over. GTDC chairman Vishwajit Rane, Valpoi municipal vice chairperson Ramesh Padloskar and high school headmaster P V Thomas will be the guests of honour.

The Mahotsav also includes a host programme of panel discussion "Sapan 2061", visualising Goa 100 years after liberation, on the occasion of completion of 40 years of Goa’s liberation. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party Dr Kashinah Jalmi, Congress spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu, Bharatiya Janata Party secretary Datta Kholkar and eminent journalist Prakash Kamat will participate in it.

Around 2000 students and youth from different higher secondary schools, colleges, villages and towns of the state are expected to participate in this grand festival of performing art for both the days.
