KALZANTLYAN

The Death of Goa.... Really??

And then we weep and lament, listen wistfully to old melodramatic Lorna songs, swig an extra shot of Feni to drown our fake sorrows and claim feebly that we still love Goa.

As a dying, moribund state, I really thought we couldn't sink any lower, making complete asses of ourselves on the national scene.

But surprise, surprise we have succeeded in doing so.

Hip Hop hooray!!!

We are such a morally bankrupt people, that despite having sold our souls in 2017, unashamedly even proudly we still have the unique gumption of dissecting and discussing the "grave" political situation in Goa, as it sickeningly unfolds before our sleeping eyes !!!

And hoping for deliverance.

That's the real knockout joke.

The morbid soap opera, that's playing out at a theatre near us is something like this:

A king is gravely ill, but refused to cede even an inch of power. To the last a petty politician, a statesman never.

Two ailing ministers axed without any ceremony (and mercifully no sympathy).

Vultures from the allies and even from within rapaciously circling overhead.

The loyal soldiers, who've served God’s own party, left in the trenches, to bleed and heal themselves with alternative medicines.

The media-stringing along and other than a few honourable exceptions not bothering to question this grievous assault - indeed ailment - striking at the heart of our constitution and democracy.

THE PATHETIC SOAP OPERA PLAYS ON AND WE WATCH BEMUSED, EVEN BREAKING INTO A FEEBLE APPLAUSE WHENEVER A CHARACTER WE KNOW AND HAVE VOTED FOR COMES CENTRE STAGE.

We've stopped discussing garbage and water. We are not moved by our environmental degradation or the monumental corruption suffocating us. The economy can go for a toss and our culture and heritage can be crushed by the jackboots of hyper nationalism and globalisation.

We pathetic Goans give a fig for the issues that define our very survival.

We need to catch up on the latest episode of the disgraceful serial playing in town.

We are only content in cheering "our community" leaders making a pitch for the chair and jeering "other community" leaders who are losing theirs.

Activists and genuine grassroot leaders from fledgling parties, who are sacrificing their all - ALL - are to be listened to, mocked and knocked and come election time, we prepare ourselves to give an almighty kick in their unmentionables with a ferocity and hypocrisy only we Goans are famous for.

And then we weep and lament, listen wistfully to old melodramatic Lorna songs, swig an extra shot of Feni to drown our fake sorrows and claim feebly that we still love Goa.

UNTIL WE ADMIT WE ELECTED THESE CHARLATANS WILLINGLY, JOYOUSLY AND UNHESITATINGLY AND THAT WE ARE ALL COMPLICIT IN THE DEATH OF GOA, NOTHING WILL CHANGE !!!

NOTHING. !!

But then maybe the theory itself is wrong... maybe no one wanted to "Save Goa"... It was just a fairy tale myth that we somehow convinced ourselves to believe in.

Maybe everyone wants Goa to be a Bangalore or a Poona or a Singapore or a Dubai.

Where money is the culture and heritage and the age old culture and heritage of these places is for the history books.

But be very clear about one thing, my friends.

It is easy to blame the venal politician.

But as far as Goa is concerned, it is NOT the murder of His.

This is unequivocally the collective and willing SUICIDE of a mad, prejudiced and ultimately self-defeating people who once were the toast of the world.

“God Forbid” All Beautiful Bungalows will be wiped out by the Natural Disaster, if Mopa Airport is not Scrap and Mining is not Ban. There will be "Landslides, Earthquakes, Floods & Heavy Rains" in Goa. NATURE has its Limits to accept Humans Greed.

GFP+MGP may merge with BJP and Dhavlikar becoming CM & Vijay DCM.

Goans must stop praising Congress & BJP.

Goans must demand voting through Ballot paper only and not with EVM.

Jack De Goan |

Well said Oscar, it seems that unless there is a revolution, things look bleak. Despite so much of work that people like you have done, people's political will for justice for all is sadly lacking in Goan society.

Yes !

It’s us to blame
