Madgao cricket ODI called off
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 24 October 2010 13:06 IST
The one day international cricket match scheduled between India and Australia at Fatorda stadium in Madgao was finally called off today afternoon.
The officials decided not to play, in spite of bright sunlight, due to wet outfield.
Heavy rains had hit the torurst state since last four days . It was pouring even last night though it was a rain-less day today.
The stadium was full of fans since morning as Goa was having an ODI after several years.
Heavy rains however poured water on their enthusiasm. Even in the past, ODIs were cancelled last minute due to rains.
The players, officials and others came to the stadium today morning. The ground was then inspected twice - 11.15 am and 12..30 pm.
Reportedly, the concerned officials as well as the teams arrived at a conclusion that the play was not possible.
I respect this Game and woe to the rain-maker for dampening what otherwise seemed to be a bright day. Perhaps the ground is not drained properly allowing the water to dissipate.
I believe they are going to refund the fares within 30 days. Politicians should not be allowed to touch the game with a 10-foot pole. The grandeur and the sporting spirit of this game have been besmirched nationally as well as internationally, by thinking only of how to make fast buck at every turn.
Surely NARKASUR has been a unlucky demon for the states of Goa and its cricket association.
Probably he should call it a day and do some real samajsewa in his constituency of Aldona and take sanyas from politics and cricket.
