Govt starts repaying power dues

The Goa government has begun repaying the power dues worth Rs 400 crore, which have piled up over the past few years, chief minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters here today.

Parrikar said Rs 400 crore were due to be paid to various agencies like the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Reliance Salgaoncar Power Limited (RSPL), from whom, the power is purchased.

The state has been procuring power from the RSPL, which has set up a plant in Goa.

The chief minister said that the outstanding bills worth Rs 200 crore have been paid to NTPC, while the liability of RSPL is to the tune of Rs 150 crore.

"We have started paying RSPL's dues in installments. For instance, the bills for the last two months were paid this time," Parrikar said.

Goa doesn't have its own power generation plant and purchases it from other states.

After coming to power, the Manohar Parrikar government had claimed that they have Rs 300 crore worth recovery from various consumers in the power sector, including Rs 30 crore from various departments and agencies of the state government.

In a recently-held meeting with the electricity department officials, Parrikar had asked them to expedite the recovery procedure.

Congress was in Power............Yet Power bills not paid to the tune of Rs 400 crores. What si the reason behind???

Can BJP Government take action on the previous Power Minister for not paying Power bills. Or this is because they could not take kick back of 15%??
