9 MLAs ride 5 bikes on NH 17, without helmets

Glenn Ticlo, miniser Avertano Furtado & Rohan Khaunte enter Assembly gate from NH17

Nine young MLAs, including a minister, came to the Assembly today very enthusiastically on their fancy Bullet motorcycles; but without a helmet, riding on a National Highway.

No police dared to stop them.

Transport minister Sudin Dhawalikar, when confronted by media persons, said he would take action if they have violated the law.

Labour minister Avertano Furtado, BJP MLAs Carlos Almeida and Glenn Ticlo, Goa Vikas Party MLA Mickky Pacheco and Porvorim independent MLA Rohan Khaunte rode to the Assembly on their bikes, together.

Pillioned with them were three more BJP MLAs and an independent.

Avertano had Michael Lobo sitting behind him, Mickky had Nilesh Cabral, Glenn had Pramod Sawant and Carlos had Naresh Sawal as pillion riders.

As young turks, they rode together and arrived at the Assembly complex, inviting everybody’s attraction, including the media.

The media persons however also noticed that none of them were wearing a helmet.

Mickky in fact was wearing his typical scarf on the head.

The media also noted that the bike of Carlos did not carry a number plate.

“I am quite excited since I am riding a bike after long time”, said Glenn with a broad smile on his face.

They told media that it was a spontaneous and enthusiastic decision since Friday was a half-day Assembly session.

The excited young legislators were however taken a back when media persons asked them about the helmets.

“We kept it down at the gate”, they claimed.

Mickky was little hesitant to answer when media persons asked him what message they wanted to convey to the young bikers of Goa by not wearing the helmet.

“Will they fine me? Fine”, he said.

However, when confronted, transport minister Dhawalikar opined it was a wrong message the MLAs have conveyed to the people, if they were not wearing the helmet.

“I don’t get scared of anybody. If they have violated the Motor Vehicles Act, they would be panelized”, he said firmly.

Incidentally, day before yesterday, the House had seriously discussed the issue of wearing helmets with a deep concern due to increasing number of fatal accidents in the state.

Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane had pressed for its firm implementation, stating that the whole opposition would remain with the government in enforcing the law.

However, here, legislators of different parties and independent came together to violate the law by not wearing helmets. is now on Telegram & also Youtube. Kindly subscribe for free & remain updated.

a real shame on these so called 'leaders' ..they probably thought they can copy the Hells Angels.. but even those guys who are real bikers have sense enough to wear helmets..

Joy ride went terribly wrong. United we break the law, while divided in the assembly house we make laws. Please leaders lead by example.

Makers are breakers. Setting a bad example to the public. No wonder we have the young generation not following the road rules and regulations; besides TRAFFIC POLICE can be bribed easily..... YES, rules only apply to AAM ADMI.
