Rescued crew members of fishing trawler

Cuncolim police today evening filed a murder case against unknown navigator of the Coast Guard for causing death by negligence.

The Coast Guard vessel – ICGS Vaibhav – hit a fishing trawler yesterday at around 5 am.

One crew member died while five more are still missing in the horrifying accident that broke the trawler into two pieces.

Other 23 crew members, who remained afloat in the sea for almost five hours, were later rescued by other fishing trawlers.

Martins Fernandes, owner of the fishing trawler Sea Messiah, filed the complaint.

He has also claimed a loss of Rs 95 lakh, besides human loss.

The police have accordingly filed a case under IPC Section 280 for rash navigation of vessel, section 427 for mischief causing damage, section 337 for causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and section 304 A for causing death by negligence.

The Board of Inquiry of the Coast Guard, in the meanwhile, is probing into the whole incident.
