Asha's Goa music school plan flayed

Goa Kala Academy chairman Vishnu Wagh has flayed renowned singer Asha Bhosle’s desire to start a music school in Goa.

Bhosle, the singer of Goan origin and daughter of Dinanath Mangeshkar, had recently expressed her desire to open a music school in Goa.

At the age of 80, she performed in Goa last month, for the first time in her life, along with her musician brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

“Why she did not think of starting such a school at least two decades ago? When will she start such a school at 80 and who would run it later”, asked Wagh, a poet and writer.

Wagh sounded quite critical even about Asha Bhosle performing in Goa for the first time, almost at the end of her career.

“I am not disclosing my own experience when I went to invite all of them for Master Dinanath Music Festival in 1999”, said the ruling party MLA, who heads Kala Academy, Goa’s premier cultural institution.

He was also critical of their behavior of calling themselves Goan when they are in Goa and then proudly calling themselves Maharahstrians, when in Maharashtra.

“We Goans are sentimental folks and get carried away easily”, he commented.

Better late than never!

Asha Bhosle should get all the cooperation in her desire to start a music school in Goa.

We respect Wagh as a writer and poet but he should roar like a wagh - not like a waghela!

Let Asha open the school. It will benefit Goans.

We know she is a Goan.
