Goa Govt to fund private museums

Goa government has floated a scheme to finance new private museums as well as to upgrade infrastructure of existing private museums.

New museums will get assistance of Rs 25 lakh while existing museums would get Rs 10 lakh for infrastructural upgradation.

As per the criteria laid down by the Goa State Museum, financial assistance will be given to the museums engaged in the promotion, preservation and conservation of the cultural heritage of Goa.

It includes Antiquities, Numismatics, Paintings, Folk Art, Manuscripts or any other unique theme reflecting or depicting Goan history, life or culture.

A new museum needs to be in existence for not less than three years while the existing museum needs to be existing for not less than seven years.

The museum could be controlled by society, trust or autonomous body or even an individual, but needs to have its own land or building or leased property with minimum 30 years of lease.

Funds would be given for renovation or repairs,  extension, modernization of galleries, warehousing reserve collection, security measures, documentation of collection, conservation laboratory or conservation projects, equipments, publications, website, workshops and events as well as travel grants for personnel to go with traveling exhibition.

No funds however would be given for acquisition of objects or infrastructural and maintenance costs except for those indicated above.
