Investment policy neglects present mess: AITUC

The draft industrial-cum-investment policy of the Goa government does not take into consideration the existing industrial mess in the state, the All India Trade Union Congress has charged.

"The government should conduct a study of how many industries are existing in the state, how many of them have closed down, who are wielding control over these industries and what is the labour scenario in these industries," AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonsenca told reporters here today.

The state government should find out how many workers had to face lay offs from these industries, he said.

The state government has received a draft industrial-cum-investment policy formed by a task force which speaks of attracting Rs 5,000 crore investment and creating 50,000 jobs in last five years.

"While the government speaks of generating so many jobs, it should also try to study what is the scenario in all the 16 industrial estates," Fonseca said.

The AITUC, which held its central committee meeting in Panaji today, also demanded that the state government should find out what happened to those industries which had won subsidies from the state government.
